The incredible adventures of Schu and Allie in Vienna.
So, it's me, Allie, who'll tell you this incredible but real story, seating near the fire-place, just let me put the biggest kettle on the fire. Join to our tea-drinking, the talk is to be long;) Аnd Christian will correct my narration if I let any inaccuracy.
It was the old 2002. We came to Vienna on 22 of February. The winter was snowy, indeed, both in Austria and here, in our fairy-tale Oz;) Of course, the winter Vienna is a magic sight, wich makes you believe in a fairy-tale. But we wanted to see also the usual Vienna, with its green parks - we knew that we hardly would come here once again. And the weather made our dreams come true - for a few days the snow thawed and the sun rose. And during our parents were deciding their boring problems, Chris and me walked the city.
First of all it's nesessary to tell about the apartament where we stayed. There were two rooms and a kitchen in this flat, it was on the second floor of the house on Kant gasse, which is closed to Bethovenplatz. The flat was quiet ordinary, with a rather poor furniture, but it was very cosy, indeed. And there was a street lamp under the window of our room, it was disturbing our sleep with its light. Yes, there is a lot of things to remember...:) And maybe everything I tell you now is useless, but all this details meant a world for me and Schu.
Our first day in Vienna was rather confused. We were only staring around - it was just too hard to believe that we were here, in the city of our dreams. Though on the next day we were at home in the situation and went for walks with the guide-book. We even didn't loose. Everything was looking extraordinary - the streets, the gothic houses, even the passers-by. The spires of the houses roofs against the background of the sky was a fantastic view - every time it got dark it seemed to us that the city was different. And the street lamp under our window lit up the drizzling drops of the rain and the wet street. We were watching all this from the window trying to remember every picture just like slide, forever. And we sat near the window every night untill I caught cold and stopped these night duties near the window.
On the first sunny day we went to Stephansplatz which we named "the pigens' kingdom". It was something incredible, indeed. The pigens were just everywhere! They were so solid and beautiful, but too funny at the same time. Many tourists feed the pigens with the crumbs and were very happy with it. I don't know what was the pigens' mind about the crumbs, so we didn't feed them and left their "kingdom".
And of course we had nesessary to call at the cafe, which Vienna was famous for. Vienna without its coffee aroma is unbelievable. And you may feel giddy with this aroma for the first time, but Schu and I got used to this, we even liked it:). "Melange" - the famous Vienna delicacies, coffee with whipped cream, you must certainly taste it. And of course we could never leave Vienna without tasting of the famous "Rex" rolls. We have tasted. Now it is your turn.
Then we left to Schwedenplatz, which was situated on the bank of the Donau and there was an underground station, which was very handy for us. We didn't like the Donau at all. It was rather green and muddy. It's a pity that we couldn't go to the opposite bank as we had no time. We couldn't see the Vienna forest, too, and it's a big pity. But when we were leaving, the day before it we saw the Donau again and it looked just different, it was very beautiful. It was late evening, and the lights of the city reflecting in its running water - this picture was so exciting, so romantic and amazing, we could hardly forget it.
When we came to Prater, it was so cloudy and windly, that it made us sad and pensive. All attractions covered with the polyethylene were so sad and how stupid it sounds tired, it was like the day after a noisy party - silence, futility, only the wind and the drops of the rain... Green grass, fresh after the rain air, wet roofs of the gothic houses - just like one more slide which pictures our wonderful trip.
But the most wonderful adventure we lived on the second Saturday of our trip, when the one of our biggest dreams came true. By the time we came to Vienna we had been watching "Rex" for a long time, of course, and we liked Weixelbraun since that time. And now, we are here, in Vienna, and we have a chance to see any performance with his participation! It's hard to remember now, who saw the playbill for "Hughie" first, Schu or me, but it was much harder to take there our parents!.. But Schu and I are great theatre-goers so our require didn't surprise our parents too much.
Ensembletheatre is situated on the Stephansplatz, which is closed to Stephansdom, there is an underground station and a park of fiacres near it. And everyone who has his own transport can drive there along the wide street - Kartner strasse. It was a cosy and noisy in the theatre itself, but it has a strange design, you can easily lost in its corridors, so we asked for a help from a ticket collector. And she said that we had to go upstairs if we were already going to the hall and downstairs to the basement if we'd like to have a cup of coffee. We didn't go to the basement and went upstairs quietly.
The hall wasn't big, but cosy, with some strange pictures on the doors, we were looking around with great interest. Finally the last bell was given and we looked at the stage with beating heart.
The decorations - rather poor, in fact there were only two actors, but... They played so convincing, so wonderful! And this Erie was far better than big good Charlie, who was a positive person in idea. Now it is clear, why the spectators love Weixelbraun - he doesn't play, he lives on the stage. You could hardly recognize Christian Bock in this rogue Erie. Only one thing, which belongs to Weixelbraun, probably - is putting hands into the pockets:) We were watching the performance with great interest, it was a really exciting performance.
When the play overed, we saw quiet different Heinz. He wasn't like Bock or Erie, it was just a quiet and tired man, who was greatful to the spectators for their attention and applause. Yes, this man has a great talent, now we were sure in it.
On the day we were leaving Vienna the city was gloomy and depressive, just as in "Erwin und Julia", but we didn't want to leave it anyway. And we saved Vienna in our memory, in our hearts, this city became closer to us with its never-ending secrets. The strange city and the strange man, Heinz Weixelbraun, associated with our minds and became a part of us. This fairy-tale is over, but it lives with us. In our hearts. Isn't it, Schu?..
