The strange city.

Vienna, the capital of Austria, is situated on the bank of Donau, it's one of the culture centers of the world.
Blue river... the city full of music.. Of course, you can find all this in Vienn. This atmosphere makes your spirit light, you want to think only about something good and bright. You want to dance, to make some follies, to enjoy these wonderful places, where you feel yourself felt into a fairy-tale...
So, Vienna is a double-faced city. When the weather is sunny and quite, you want to watch the run of the river, to walk the old cosy streets in the centre of the city, to have a rest at the Vienn forest. This wonderful city makes you forget all your troubles and accotiate with its history. But here's the another side. If you would walk the city in a cloudy weather it will make you sad and maybe even nervious. The history is everywhere, at every step. Here's a house of Brams, there - the place where Mozart composed "The Figaro's Wedding", there's the church where Maller got married and there's the house of Beethowen. Churches, town halls, all this gothic architecture depresses you. To see all sigths of Vienna is impossible. You can spend all your time for excursions and exhibitions, but you'll leave the city with feeling that you've seen not enough.

It's impossible to imagine Vienna without all its cosy cafes. Cafes are the favorite places both of coffee-lovers and of tourists. You certainly have to visit one of such cafes, to have a cup of coffee and talk about something pleasant. The most popular cafes are "Zacher", "Demel","Do & Co". Vienn restaurants and pubs are famous for their traditions and beer. There is a lot of national Austrian sweets you can taste in these cafes and restaurants. You certainly have to taste the famous chocolate cake "Zacher". It's the favorite delicacies of Vienna citizens. For the first time this cake was prepared especially for prince of Metternich. Also you should taste "Melange" - coffee with whipped cream. Delicious!

It's good to visit Vienna in any season, but if you choose the Christmas time, you'll never forget your trip. Then you should go to "Naschmarkt", where the sellers will offer you different vegetables and fruits commenting the deal with Austrian jokes. Each Saturday the food markets become "flea-markets" where you can buy cheap hand-mades. But there's one defect of all Vienna shops - all of them closes at 18:00. The prices are much lower than in Paris, but the range of goods is able to compare with Paris shops. The most famous Vienna Shopping centre is situated on the suburb of the city and you can get there by a special bus.

Now about the city itself. The biggest part of Vienna is situated on the right bank of Donau near the Viennerwald - Vienna forest. The oldest part of the city is the central district - "Inner City". It is surrounded with fortifications. Central streets are old, narrow and cosy. You can forget the time walking these streets.

Vienna is also famous for its parks and squares. The most famous park is Prater, but it's opened only till midnight. It's a giant park indeed. There is a lot of different attractions here, including the famous viewing wheel. Here is the one of the biggest and oldest hyppodromes of the Europe.
Also there are such big and old parks as Schonbrunn (1695-1749, by architectors Fischer von Erlach, Paccasie) and Belveder (1721-1722, by Hildenbrandt). There is a lot of museums here, too. The oldest masterpiece is Stephansdom (~1147). It became the symbol of Veinna. It's a very beautiful building indeed. It is so great and old that you feel yourself too small near it.

When I visited Vienna I've heard one amazing story. Each city has its soul. It flies among the old streets and between the old buildings, in the parks and squares, especially in cloudy and rainy weather. And you have a chance to catch it. To say correctlier - this soul is able to catch you. It will understand that it can trust you. And will trust you itself. Itself, the soul of the city. And you'll be happy.
